How do I get ABA therapy?
Process to Getting ABA
Intake
During intake, you will receive a call from our Practice Owner and Clinical Director to review your concerns and ensure that Northern Lights Behavioral Consulting is a good fit for your family. This process also includes the gathering of insurance cards and diagnostic documents. Your benefits will be verified. This process ensures that ABA therapy is covered under your plan. Once benefits are verified, a prior authorization with be submitted to start assessment.
The intake process may take up to two weeks, or until proper documentation is procured.
Assessment
Assessment begins after a prior authorization for initial assessment is approved by your insurance. This process includes meeting face-to-face with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to complete a caregiver interview and a child assessment. The BCBA will take the interview and assessment information and write a treatment plan. This treatment plan will then be submitted to your insurance for authorization approval.
The assessment process may take two to four weeks. Approval from insurance can take up to an additional 4 weeks.
ABA Therapy
Once approval from your insurance is received, ABA therapy can begin! The Board Certified Behavior Analyst, or BCBA, will oversee a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), who will provide direct therapy for your child. The BCBA will also meet with caregivers, which includes adults that spend a significant amount of time with your child, through caregiver collaboration meetings. This is an integral part of ABA therapy, as it assists in the generalization and maintenance of skills, and behavior reduction throughout different settings of their life.
Every six months, the BCBA will submit for a reauthorization of services, or if your child has met fading criteria, a reduction in hours or discharge. You will be involved in fading conversations.
