Skill Acquisition
Some children need assistance in gaining skills that will improve their communication, social, and daily living skills so that they can be as independent as possible. During the initial assessment phase, your Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will assess your child, through a caregiver/parent interview, direct observation, and direct assessment for skill deficits. These assessments will help the BCBA determine individual goals to help build and achieve those skills. Some skills that we commonly work on are requesting for items, requesting for help or a break, peer play, identifying emotions, engaging in appropriate conversations, engaging in age-appropriate self-care and hygiene tasks, and attending to instructions.
